Foot Prints In The Sand

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his
For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:

One belonged to him, the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him he looked back at the footprints in the sand
 He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of foot prints.

This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it
 “LORD, you said that once I decided to follow You, You would walk with me all of the way.

But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times of my life there is only one set of footprints.

The LORD replied, “My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you

During your times of trial and suffering
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

He Walked Out Of Heaven

He came from splendor to be born in poverty.
He left the presence of angels, for the company of men.
He laid down a scepter in the heaven to be laid in a manger
 and exchanged he worship of Arch-angels, for the praise of lowly shepherds.

He walked into the world with all the power of Almighty God at His bidding
 but He was carried out a mutilated body lowered from a cross.

He rebuked the pious, but He comforted the sinner.
He refused earthly Kingship, although He was still a King.
He loved His mother yet gave her away at the Cross.
He healed the broken-hearted, yet He himself, died with a broken heart.

He loved the fellowship of friends, yet was cast out by His kinsmen
 He rebuked both sage and seer, and then blessed the little children.

He held an executive meeting on the Mount of Tansfiguration,
 then wept alone in the Garden of Gethsemane.

He could walk on water, but could not walk away from the tears in the eyes of the
Widow from Nain. He could command the stars in their orbits,
 but He refused to change the circumstances of His on execution.
His mission was a commitment to free all men
 yet He was imprisoned on the testimony of one man.

He delivered many from pain, but He was delivered to suffer agonizing pain
 He dried the eyes of multitudes, but no one dried His eyes in Gethsemane.

He carried the burdens of the world, but only one was brought forth to help Him bear
His Cross to Calvary.

His execution was thought to be insignificant, but became the controversy of the ages.
His life was extinguished in a brief second of time, but then ignited to lighten the world.
 His short span of thirty-three years on Earth should have passed unnoted were it possible
but no one life has ever had such impact on the minds of men.

His three and one-half years in the public’s eye was brief indeed,
 but His achievements are the greatest ever recorded.

He has inspired more men, conquered more hears, delivered more
consoled more mourners, than any figure in the history of man.

He spoke of love, but was murdered with hate.
He shared all that he had, and then on the Cross—He shared paradise with a thief.

He gave the World light, only to be driven into the cavern of Death.

He gave mankind guidance, only to be guided to Golgotha.
He pointed men to the Tree of Life, and they nailed Him to a tree on a hill called the Skull.
 He laid down a scepter in heaven, to be laid in a borrowed tomb.

He walked out of heaven, pure, perfect, and beautiful.
He returned beaten, mutilated, and nail scarred.
He fulfilled all that was written of Him, and yet man did not believe Him.

His coming changed the course of nations; His return will be to judge the nations.

His title was simple as stated on the Cross,
“Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews,”
but to those who have ever know Him,
He is Jesus Christ,
The Son of the Living God.

When Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled on St. Helena, he was asked by one of his friends
 “Who was the greatest warrior the world has ever known?”
Without hesitation, Napoleon answered, “Jesus Christ.
“But,” said his friend, “you have not always talked that way
 When you were winning battles,
even up to the very time of Waterloo, you left the impression that you were
 the world’s greatest warrior.”

This is how Napoleon replied;

“Yes, I have always acted as though I thought I was the world’s greatest conqueror
 I have had lots of time to think since I have been here on this island.
 The Caesars, Alexander the Great, Hannibal Charlemagne, and myself—
we have fought with blood and tears and swords and iron,
 and we lost.  All of us lost.
We lost our scepters, our crowns and our offices.

The only sword Christ had was a broken reed;
His crown, some twisted thorns;
His army, a band of fisherman and farmers;
His ammunition, a heart of redeeming love.

He lives, and I and my kind die.

I stand here and call for the Old Guard to come, but they do not hear me
There are no responding voices.  My old soldiers do not hear me.
 I hear nothing but the waves as they bite at the rock beneath my feet.

But after 1800 years have gone into the tomb of time--
Christ calls and men answer.
If need be, they give their bodies to be burned.
If need be, they follow Him into the heart of Africa;
But, better still, They live patient and triumphant lives in His Name.

Yes, the other warriors and I will ride down to dust,
But
Christ will live forever.”

(Excerpt from And Be Ye saved, by C. Gordon Bayless)

Who Is Jesus?

Jesus Christ was born in the meanest of circumstances, but the air above was
filled with  the hallelujahs of the heavenly host.
His lodging was a Cattle pen, but a star directed the
distinguished visitants from afar to do Him homage.

His birth was contrary to the laws of life:
His death was contrary to the laws of death.
No miracle is so inexplicable as His teaching and His life.
He had no cornfields or fisheries, but He could spread a table for 5...thousand and have
bread and fish to spare.
He walked on no beautiful carpets, but He tread on the waters and ... they supported Him.
He had no veneration for old mistakes, not admiration for ancient ... forms.
He loved truth for truth’s sake and for men’s sake.

He saw oppression on every hand; injustice everywhere, hypocrisy at the altar;
 tyranny on the throne and with high and splendid courage He espoused the cause of the
 weak against the strong; of the enslaved many against the titled few.

He commanded no wealth;
He built no church;
He founded no schools;
He organized no army;
He wrote no books,
And yet

After 1,900 years He is the one central character of human history
the perpetual theme of all preaching, the pivot around which the events of the age resolve
the only regenerator of the human race.

Was it merely the son of Mary who crossed the world’s horizon over 1,900 years ago?

Was it merely human blood that was spilled on Calvary’s hill for the redemption of sinners and
which has worked such wonders in men and nations throughout the centuries?

His Crucifixion was the crime of crimes, but no lower price that His infinite agony
on the cross could have made possible our redemption.

When He died few men mourned, but black crepe was hung over the sun.

Though men trembled not for their sins, the earth beneath shook under the load!

All nature honored Him;
Sinners alone rejected Him.
Sin never touched Him.
Corruption could not get hold of His body.

The soil that had been reddened with His blood could not claim His dust.

The Name of Jesus sounds down the corridors of the centuries like the music of all choirs,
 visible and invisible pealed forth in one anthem.

His Name blossoms on the pages of history like the flowers of a thousand springtimes
blossoming in the narrow limits of one garden--

What thinking man can keep from exclaiming:
“My Lord And My God.”

Christ

Christ my Saviour, Christ my Friend:
Christ my Treasure without end;
Christ when waves of sorrow roll;
Christ the comfort of my soul;
Christ when all around should fail;
Christ when enemies prevail;
Christ when false accusers rise;
Christ my Solace in the skies;
Christ when days are dark and drear;
Christ when all around is clear;
Christ when all the earth is gone;
Christ my King upon the throne;
Christ at home and Christ abroad;
Christ my Company on the road;
Christ in sickness, Christ in health;
Christ in poverty and in wealth;
Christ who once on earth has trod;
Christ the blessed “Son Of God”;
Christ for time and Christ for aye;
Christ for all eternity.

Greatest Story

“The maker of the Universe
As man for man was made a curse;
The claims of laws which He had made
Unto the uttermost He paid.
His holy fingers made the bough
Where grew the thorns that crowned His brow;
The nails that pierced His hands were mined
In secret places He designed.

“He made the forest whence there sprung
The tree on which His body hung;
He died upon a cross of wood,
Yet made the hill on which it stood.
The sky which darkened o’er His head
By Him above the earth was spread;
The sun which hid from Him its face
By His decree was poised in space.

“The spear which spilt His precious blood
Was tempered in the fires of God;
The grave in which His form was laid
Was hewed in rocks His hands had made.
The throne on which He now appears
Was His from everlasting years;
But a new glory crowns His brow
And every knee to Him shall bow.”

“The Miracle Man! He came to us by a miracle and left by a miracle. His life was one continuous miracle
 He was so full of power that all known laws of nature were counteracted at His wish; so full of
 life that the grave could not keep Him; so full of goodness that even the demons were forced to admit it;
 so great that years later one Augustine said of Him, “His life is lightening. His words are thunder!”

This Miracle Man is eternal in time, omnipotent in power, omniscient in intellect, sovereign in His actions.
He is the Lord of Glory and the Lord of humanity, Master of nature and Master of providence, the coming Judge and the coming King.

He is the only hope of mankind, and the only way to God; the Fountain of Life
 the Source of Light,
 and the Author of Liberty.

He is full of grace, and full of truth, He sealed His tremendous claims and demonstrated
His position by constant manifestations of miraculous power,
 by a sinless life, by a sacrificial death, and by His own resurrection from the dead.”
(~Fred J. Meldau)

Who Was Jesus?

He began His ministry by being hungry,
... yet He is the bread of Life.
Jesus ended His earthly ministry by being thirsty,
... yet He is the Living Water.
Jesus was weary,
... yet He is our rest.
Jesus paid tribute,
... yet He is the King.
Jesus was accused of having a demon,
... yet He cast out demons.
Jesus wept,
...yet He wipes away our tears.
Jesus was sold for thirty pieces of silver,
... yet He redeemed the world.
Jesus was brought as a lamb to the slaughter,
... yet He is the Good Shepherd.
Jesus died,
... yet by His death He destroyed the power of death.

(~Gregory of Nazianzus, A. D. 381)

“He that hath the Son hath life;
and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”
(1 John 5:12)

Consider He Is:

Our “Head, Master-Builder, and Chief Cornerstone”
Our Door, Way, Light, Temple, our High Priest; enthroned;
The Sacrifice offered; the Fire to refine;
The Truth, sanctifying; the Life, all divine,
Our Sun, sheltering Rock,
Bread, and Fountain so sweet;
Branch and Vine, to o’ershadow in noonday’s great heat;
The Lily, perfuming to us thru valley of woes;
Morning Star of our hopes, and Sharon’s sweet Rose;
A Lamb, in Thy Meekness; Lion in power;
Our Friend; and our Shepherd: in danger’s dark hour;
The Son, on whose arm we may lean in old age;
Man of Sorrows, whose pity our sufferings assuage;
A Fellow and Brother: to Thee would we cling;
O Wonderful, Counselor, Law-giver, King:
Immanuel, Advocate, Prince of Peace, Word;
Mediator, Redeemer,
Jesus Christ, Saviour, Lord.

Christ’s Last Will and Testament

He left His Purse to Judas;
His Body to Joseph of Arimathea;
His Mother to John;
His Clothes to the soldiers;
His Peace to his disciples;
His Supper to His followers;
Himself as an example and as a servant;
His Gospel to the world;
His Presence always with God’s children!
~~~~~No Boundaries
Love that knew no boundaries,
Love that spurned the cost;
Love that pierced the darkness
Seeking for the lost;
Love that wrought redemption
There on Calvary;
Praise His Name forever,
His love included Me!
(E. F. Reibetanz)
What Christ Is To Us
HE IS The Shield from every dart,
The Balm for every smart;
The Sharer of each load;
The Companion on the road.
The Door into the fold;
The Anchor that will hold;
The Shepherd of the sheep;
The Guardian of my sleep.
The Friend with Whom I talk;
The Way by which I walk;
The Light to show the way;
The Strength for every day.
The Source of my delight;
The Song to cheer the night;
The Thought that fills my mind;
The Best of All to find—is Jesus!
